Governors Ball took place at Flushing Meadows Corona Park in NYC from June 9 to June 11. The New York City-central summer music festival saw headliners like Lizzo, Kendrick Lamar, Odesza, Diplo, and more, all of whom showed up in outfits that ran the gamut, but were completely in line with the musicians’ personal style.
Lizzo, in particular, pulled out all the stops, exchanging her usual onstage Yitty bodysuits for a special custom Gaurav Gupta gown, replete with a silver, rhinestone-encrusted structural bodice covered by a leggy metallic skirt with a hip-high slit. Styled by Reginald Reisman, Lizzo completed the outfit with pink hair, diamond ear crawlers, and combat boots, opting for both glamour and comfort all at once. And she wasn’t the only star to turn heads. Ice Spice coordinated a distressed denim miniskirt set from Who Decides War with translucent pink sunglasses and other kitschy, Y2K-inspired jewelry, and Kim Petras was rugged in Miu Miu leather and Paris Texas knee-high boots.
The fashion at Governors Ball never disappoints. Celebrities who hit the stage for the weekend have a way of mastering that skin-baring summer style with the off-beat, casual nature that New York City is known for during the warmest months of the year. While heatwave-friendly looks, complete with bralette tops, short shorts, and flirty dresses might have taken center stage on the grounds among show attendees, head-turning bodysuits, sheer layers, and cool graphic tees were fodder for the performance looks.
Historically, you might recall some of the best on-stage Governors Ball looks from the last few years including Halsey’s killer red bikini set, topped with totally sheer pants; Dua Lipa’s relatable activewear look; and Este Haim’s bohemian-inspired minidress.
