Alexander McQueen’s Pre-Fall 2022 collection is a masterpiece from start to finish. Certain looks in particular brought the sartorial drama, delivering the tailoring expertise and couture sensibility we’ve come to associate with McQueen.
The first look — an off-shoulder corset dress in a vibrant shade of yellow — stands out as a brilliant re-creation of archival silhouettes. A corset dress with silver-metal detailing and an asymmetric drape skirt in pastel pink recalls the vintage slip dress Miley Cyrus wore on “Late Night With Seth Meyers” last month. Each piece proved Burton’s virtuosity and mastery of the British label’s house codes.
Timed to the debut, Burton tapped 12 international artists to create works inspired by the collection, including Ann Cathrin November Høibo, Beverly Semmes; Bingyi, Cristina de Middel, Guinevere van Seenus, Hope Gangloff, Marcia Kure, Jackie Nickerson, Jennie Jieun Leel, Judas Companion, Marcela Correa, and Marcia Michael. “It’s been very interesting to see how creativity has sprung from so many different perspectives,” Burton said in a press release. “And the outcomes that have been varied and beautiful.” Each artist selected a look from the collection and interpreted it using their preferred medium, including weaving, sculpture, and moving images.
The artworks will be displayed alongside the McQueen looks that inspired them in a temporary exhibition at the Alexander McQueen store on Old Bond Street in London. Appreciate our favorite pieces ahead.
