Donald Trump is entangled in a clutch of legal cases over his conduct, his handling of classified documents, and the events before and after the 2020 presidential election.
Trump said on Tuesday that the US Department of Justice had informed him he was a target of an investigation into the run-up to the attack on the US Capitol in 2021.
He became the first former president to face federal criminal charges after being indicted in June for retaining secret government documents at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida after leaving office.
These cases are among at least six separate legal battles Trump is facing, all of which he has dismissed as politically motivated to obstruct his bid to win re-election to the White House.
He has vowed to press on with his campaign despite the mounting legal challenges, which he describes as “election interference” and “political weaponisation of law enforcement”.
