A new Pet Supplies Plus store has opened in East Meadow.
The 5,200-square-foot store at 1976 Hempstead Turnpike was formerly occupied by Mandee.
The East Meadow store is the chain’s 11 Long Island location, joining others in Manhasset, Oceanside, West Hempstead, Valley Stream, Smithtown, Medford, Port Jefferson Station, Lake Ronkonkoma, Central Islip and East Northport.
The store offers a variety of natural pet foods and products for cats, dogs, reptiles, birds, fish, and small animals. It also has a grooming salon, self-serve wash stations, and carry-out service where team members carry heavy items to neighbors’ cars.
The new Pet Supplies Store is owned and operated by franchisee Nirav Patel. An immigrant from India, Patel has always had a passion for business and he and his daughter are big animal lovers, according to a company statement.
“Pets bring so much joy and companionship into people’s lives,” Patel said in the statement. “I’m excited to be surrounded by them every day at Pet Supplies Plus. This store is more than just a business—it’s a way for my daughter and me to connect with fellow pet lovers, support our community, and help families find the best care for their furry friends.”
Headquartered in Livonia, Mich., Pet Supplies Plus began franchising in 1989 and now has more than 700 stores in 36 states. The all-in cost to open a Pet Supplies Plus franchise ranges from $498,000 to $1.9 million.
The East Meadow store will host a grand opening event on Saturday, April 5 and Sunday, April 6, when the store will provide complimentary nail trims from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for dogs and free pet washes. Guests can also earn a $5 reward for every $50 spent and have a chance to win either a $250, $100, or $50 gift card and receive a coupon.
The North Shore Animal League America will be in attendance at the new store from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 5. On April 6, the first 100 people will receive a free small bag of dog or cat food.
