Holocaust survivor honored for Jewish history preservation

Holocaust survivor Fred Zeilberger, a resident of The Bristal at North Woodmere, participated in a symbolic Torah restoration ceremony at the 5-Towns Israel Chessed Center. The event was led by Jonny Daniels, founder of the international Holocaust education organization—From the Depths—to advance Holocaust education and honor the Righteous Among the Nations, those who risked their lives to save Jews during the Shoah. Daniels’ efforts also include restoring Jewish antiquities, most notably a Torah scroll entrusted to Polish neighbors by a Jewish family before their deportation to Treblinka. Now recovered and restored, the scroll accompanies Daniels on his travels, offering Holocaust survivors a meaningful opportunity to reconnect with their faith and history.
Zeilberger, now 95, was honored by contributing a Hebrew letter to the scroll, a moment that symbolized not only personal survival but the unbreakable continuity of Jewish tradition.
