Art museum hosts motherhood-themed exhibit, film screening
The Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill welcomed Every Mother Counts and Christy Turlington Burns along with exhibiting artists Julia Chiang and Sam Moyer for a special Friday night program.
The evening included a screening of Giving Birth in America: Arkansas, followed by a panel discussion including Mónica Ramírez-Montagut that explored the themes of the film, motherhood and its influence on the panelists’ artistic process.
Induction ceremony held for LIMEHOF’s hip-hop honorees
The Long Island Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame inducted hip-hop artists Davy DMX (Run-DMC, Kurtis Blow, The Fat Boys), DJ Hurricane (The Beastie Boys) and DJ Jazzy Jay (Def Jam) at its Stony Brook location.
The DJ’s performed and were joined by LIMEHOF inductee DJ Johnny Juice (Public Enemy). Hip Hop artist and LIMEHOF inductee Kurtis Blow made a special appearance to induct Davy DMX and also performed his hit song “The Breaks.” DJ Hurricane was inducted by his wife, Dawn. DJ Jazzy Jay could not attend the ceremony, due to personal reasons; DJ Johnny Juice accepted the award on his behalf.
The Safe Center supports families with backpack/school supply drive
As a nonprofit victim service organization in Nassau County, The Safe Center, in partnership with Supplies for Success, stuffed 199 backpacks for distribution to children currently receiving the center’s services. This includes counseling and advocacy for domestic abuse, child abuse and other forms of interpersonal violence. Upon visiting the center, each child will receive a backpack prior to their respective first day of school.

Renaissance School of Medicine holds White Coat Ceremony
Held at Stony Brook University’s Staller Center, the Renaissance School of Medicine’s (RSOM) White Coat Ceremony welcomed 136 incoming students to officially begin their medical school training. The Class of 2028 took their Hippocratic Oath, wearing their physician “white coats” for the first time, bringing together students, their families and faculty.
Dr. Peter Igarashi, Knapp Dean of the RSOM, congratulated the incoming class and conveyed to students how they are entering the field at a time when the practice of medicine is rapidly evolving and where discoveries to diagnose and treat disease are advancing and newer practices such as telemedicine are becoming commonplace.
