To help alleviate these concerns, ELIJA (Empowering Long Island’s Journey through Autism) Founder and CEO Deb Thivierge helps families find a clear pathway for their journey through autism.
With that being said, on May 11, more than 120 parents, advocates, educators, agencies, school professionals and family members attended the foundation’s inaugural “Pathway to Adulthood Using Self-Direction: Transitioning to Independence Conference” at Hofstra University.
Along with autism advocate Trish Calandra, Thivierge have created the conference to reach families and share knowledge of what they’ve learned through their personal journeys as autism advocates. Calandra was also honored with the Champion of Hope Award at the conference on behalf of the autism community.
