On its seventh annual “Giving Day,” Adelphi University raised $684,564 from 2,011 donors, the university reported on Wednesday. The amount of funds raised and the number of donors contributing sets a new record, according to the university.
The funds will support more than 21 initiatives, including academic scholarships, research, athletics and support for the Adelphi Fund, an ongoing campaign that supports students, classrooms and academic programs.
“Each contribution fuels our innovative programs and research while enhancing our commitment to a personalized, student-focused education,” Adelphi University President Christine Riordan said in a written statement. “We are incredibly appreciative of the record number of donors and the remarkable amount of giving this year.”
Of note this year was a $25,000 donation from Greg and Katy Carey, on the 10th anniversary of the Bridges to Adelphi, which provides individualized academic, social and vocational support services to the university’s neurodiverse students. Greg Carey is chairman of Goldman Sachs’ Public Finance and head of Goldman Sachs’ Global Sports Financing Franchise.
This year, Adelphi’s athletic department raised $166,262, while the Robert B. Willumstad School of Business raised $78,731.
The day included festivities at the Garden City campus.
