How does Veterans Day align with your company’s values and
mission?
America’s VetDogs mission is to help those who have served our
country honorably live with dignity and independence or, as we
say, to Live Without Boundaries®. The service dog programs of
America’s VetDogs were created to provide enhanced mobility
and renewed independence to United States veterans, activeduty
service members, and first responders with disabilities,
allowing them to once again live with pride and self-reliance. Not
only does a service dog provide support with daily activities, it
provides the motivation to tackle everyday challenges.
It costs over $50,000 to breed, raise, train, and place one
assistance dog; however, all of America’s VetDogs’ services are
provided at no charge to the individual. Funding comes from the
generosity of individuals, corporations, foundations, businesses,
and community organizations.
In March 2024, America’s VetDogs was honored to be the one
nonprofit organization selected to receive the 2024 Citizens
Honors Community Service Award by the Congressional Medal
of Honor Society.
The story of America’s VetDogs is a compilation of the inspiration
and courage of the disabled veterans, active-duty service
members, and first responders we serve; our extraordinary dogs
who change and save lives; and the generosity of thousands of
caring volunteers, donors, partners, and staff on Long Island and
across the country.
Are you planning any specific initiatives or partnerships related
to Veterans Day?
America’s VetDogs program graduates, volunteers, and staff will
be appearing at Veterans Day events across Long Island, the New
York metropolitan region, and the nation to share stories about
their service to our nation, discovering America’s VetDogs, and
the life-changing impact of service dogs with a goal of inspiring
others to Apply, Volunteer, or Donate.
Are there any partnerships with veteran organizations or local
veteran communities that you are involved with?
America’s VetDogs is proud to work with the Suffolk County
Veterans Services Agency; Town of Smithtown; Suffolk County
Veterans Run Series; Nassau County Veterans Service Agency;
New York State; Long Island Association; HIA-LI; American
Legion and VFW posts; Lions, Rotary International, and Kiwanis
Clubs; Department of Veterans Affairs; Department of Defense;
the New York Mets and the Amazin’ Mets Foundation; the
New York Islanders; and many more local businesses and
organizations who support our nation’s veterans and military.
How will your involvement in Veterans Day impact your business
beyond this specific day?
America’s VetDogs is honored to serve and celebrate veterans
and active-duty service members every day. America’s VetDogs
provides a range of service dogs, including those for individuals
with physical disabilities and mobility issues, PTSD service dogs
to mitigate post-traumatic stress disorder, guide dogs for those
who are blind or have low vision, hearing dogs for those with
hearing loss, seizure response dogs, and facility dogs for animalassisted
therapy. Since 2003, we have placed more than 1,100
assistance dogs with individuals as well as facility dogs at military
bases, military and VA hospitals, police departments and more in
all 50 states, Washington, DC. Puerto Rico, and beyond.
