Tatte Bakery & Café, a growing fast-casual restaurant chain, is coming to Long Island.
The Cambridge, Mass.-based company leased a 3,200-square-foot restaurant space at 910 Franklin Ave. in Garden City, where it is expected to open in September. The spot was formerly occupied by CoreLife Eatery, which closed its Garden City and Farmingdale locations last year.
Tatte Bakery was founded in 2007 by Tzurit Or, a former Israeli film producer turned pastry chef, who made her creations in her home kitchen and sold them at a farmer’s market in Boston’s Copley Square, according to the company’s website.
Or’s first brick-and-mortar store, then called Tatte Fine Cookies & Cakes, opened in Brookline, Mass. in 2008.
The chain now has 46 locations in Massachusetts, Washington D.C., Maryland, Virginia and New Jersey, with others brewing, including a Manhattan location.
Panera Bread acquired a majority stake in Tatte in 2016, which Panera founder Ron Shaich has since purchased, according to published reports.
Tatte Bakery & Café offers an eclectic menu of Mediterranean-inspired cuisine that includes seasonal items like Corn & Spinach Shakshuka, Strawberry Roasted Peach & Chicken Salad and Pineapple Passion Fruit Matcha Bombe. It also features a wide selection of sandwiches, salads, quiches, bowls, pastries, coffee, espresso, and a variety of iced coolers.
Tatte Bakery & Café is currently seeking to hire a general manager and head chef for its new Garden City location.
Eric Gillman and Adam Bass of CBRE represented Tatte, while the landlord, 910 Franklin Realty LLC, was self-represented in the Garden City lease transaction. The brokers declined to comment.
