The Fair Media Council’s annual event that brings Long Islanders behind the headlines with reporters and editors kicks off next week.
The three-day online event, “The News Conference: Real & Powerful,” is aimed at providing greater insight into current events and the state of the news business.
The FMC event focuses on national news on Monday, Jan. 9, New York regional news on Tuesday, Jan. 10 and Long Island hyperlocal news on Wednesday, Jan. 11. In addition, the conference will include a chat with presidential historian Douglas Brinkley, a best-selling author and frequent CNN commentator.
“This event is designed for the public to gain a better understanding of news today,” Jaci Clement, CEO and executive director of the Fair Media Council, said in a written statement. “News changes rapidly, which makes this program important for business and community leaders, communicators, educators, and students. These are real conversations, not scripted nor rehearsed. Attendees are encouraged to ask questions.”
The event is sponsored by Northwell Health, Henry Schein, St. Joseph’s University, Hofstra University, and Mount Sinai South Nassau.
