The Race Track, Not Street drag-racing series returns to Calverton this weekend.
The series, which debuted here last summer, comes to the 7,000-foot runway-turned-dragstrip at 4062 Grumman Blvd. in the Enterprise Park at Calverton, kicking off on Saturday, August 20 and Sunday August 21.
Sanctioned by the National Hot Rod Association, the series invites amateur racers to bring their vehicles to the track as long as they have mufflers, proper safety equipment and pay a $65 entry fee.
The track, created on one of the two active aircraft runways at EPCAL, has more than 2,600 feet of concrete barriers, 1,700 feet of metal fencing, scoreboards with a timing system, portable toilets and electric generators. Food trucks and merchandise booths will also be on site.
The summer drag-racing series will be held on consecutive weekends through Saturday, Sept. 10. A fall series begins on Sept. 24 and runs through Oct. 16.
“We are excited to once again bring legal drag racing home to fans on Long Island,” Pete Scalzo, Race Track, Not Street organizer, said in a written statement. “This is an opportunity to come and enjoy the thrill of safe, legal drag racing on Long Island, whether you’re a fan or a competitor.”
