Cullen and Dykman launch practice helping entrepreneurs and investors buy and sell businesses

Cullen and Dykman, a law firm with offices in Uniondale, has launched a new practice focused on helping individuals and investors buy and sell businesses, and assisting with small- and medium-sized business (SMB) transactions.

The firm’s new Entrepreneurship Through Acquisition (ETA) and SMB Transactions Practice draws on the firm’s expertise in this space. This includes guiding searchers, independent sponsors, self-funded buyers and business owners selling their companies.

Joseph Spina, a partner at the firm and an expert in this space, leads the practice with Taylor Gorman, an associate at the firm, who has helped its growth in this area.

For years, the firm has helped clients buy and sell SMBs, combining experience in mergers and acquisitions with practical business knowledge. The creation of this dedicated practice fosters the firm’s focus on supporting entrepreneurs who become business owners by acquiring existing companies.

“With more than 50 ETA and lower middle-market M&A transactions closed in 2025 alone, our team has been one of the most active legal advisors in this space,” Spina said in a news release about the practice.

“Formalizing this practice recognizes what our clients already know: We’re deeply invested in this community and committed to delivering the high-touch, solutions-oriented guidance that our clients rely on,” he said.

Cullen and Dykman pointed out that ETA and small- and medium-sized business transactions differ from traditional M&As, requiring distinct sets of technical expertise and practical guidance. The firm works with clients – including first-time buyers, experienced acquirers, independent sponsors and owners selling privately held companies – applying expertise and insight to guide them through the process and achieve their business objectives.
