Ukraine is likely to lose “significant ground in 2024” in its fight against Russia if the US Congress fails to pass a bill to give it additional supplemental funds, CIA director Bill Burns said on Monday.
Ukrainian fighters withdrew from Avdiivka, in eastern Ukraine last month, and Burns said Kyiv would be forced to make similar decisions without more US aid.
With assistance, he said, the CIA assessed that Ukraine could “hold its own” on the front lines in 2024 and early 2025. He said Ukrainian strikes had sunk 15 Russian ships over the past six months, and that additional aid would allow more such attacks.
