Carvana, the online used car dealer, has opened one of its car vending machines in Garden City.
The eight-story, steel-and-glass structure is located at 2 North Ave. It’s the first Carvana vending machine on Long Island and the first in New York State.
The Tempe, Ariz.-based company acquired the 1.9 acres of industrial-zoned land on North Avenue at the end of 2021 for $9.7 million. The price of more than $5.1 million an acre was a record high price for industrial land on Long Island.
Carvana customers shop online and can choose to pick up their vehicle at the vending machine location or have the vehicle delivered to their home. At the vending machine, a Carvana staff member gives the customer an oversized coin to activate the automated vending process where they can watch the vehicle descend through the tower.
“Long Island residents have so many different needs when it comes to a vehicle,” Nicholas Gottlieb, Carvana market operations manager, said in a company statement. “We’re proud to offer Garden City a national inventory with thousands of vehicles, paired with as-soon-as-next-day vehicle delivery so customers can easily and quickly get exactly what they want.”
The Garden City Carvana vending machine is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. It is the company’s 35th vending machine location in the U.S.
Hugh Kelly and Dan Richman of SRS represented Carvana, while Kenneth Schuckman of Schuckman Realty represented the seller, an entity managed by Midwood Investment & Development, in the Garden City land sales transaction.
