The Town of Brookhaven Industrial Development Agency has closed on a package of economic incentives for a proposed affordable rental apartment complex in Medford for adults 55 and over.
The $38 million project from the nonprofit WellLife Network will bring a 67-unit apartment building to a 6.8-acre site on Horseblock Road near Eagle Avenue.
The three-story, 69,000-square-foot development will be a mix of 10 studios and 56 one-bedroom apartments will be set aside for seniors requiring support services.
WellLife, offers services at 80 locations across New York City and Long Island, including substance use disorder clinics, community outreach programs and residential facilities. Formerly known as PSCH/Pederson-Krag, the nonprofit also offers programs for those with intellectual/developmental disabilities and for mental health challenges, according to an IDA statement.
The state has allocated a total of $13.2 million in financing for the Medford Gardens project from New York State Homes and Community Renewal, through a combination of federal and state Low-Income Housing Credits and subsidies.
The Medford project will create 120 construction jobs and seven full-time-equivalent permanent positions.
“The IDA’s support of this project will, among other things, help to transform the lives of our seniors in need of support, giving them a place they can call home,” Brookhaven IDA Chairman Frederick Braun said in the statement.
