Aldi will open its newest Long Island store next week in East Northport.
The discount supermarket chain will open the new 21,000-square-foot store at 4000 Jericho Turnpike at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 12.
The East Northport space was formerly occupied by Barnes & Noble, which is relocating to 301 Walt Whitman Road and expected to open in February.
The new Aldi in East Northport is the chain’s 14th on Long Island. Another new Aldi opened Thursday as part of a $50 million mixed-use development on Carleton Avenue in Central Islip.
To celebrate the East Northport opening, the first 100 customers will receive a gift card as part of the Aldi Golden Ticket gift card giveaway program. Shoppers can also enter a sweepstakes during the grand opening weekend Dec.12 to Dec. 15 for a chance to win a $500 Aldi gift card, according to a company statement.
“Our stores are designed to make grocery shopping smarter, faster and easier,” Chris Daniels, South Windsor vice president for Aldi, said in the statement. “We’re excited to open our first Aldi store in East Northport and introduce local customers to a new, more affordable way of shopping.”
As part of the East Northport grand opening, Aldi will donate $1,000 to Long Island Cares. This year, Aldi is donating $150,000 to Feeding America and its network of affiliates to help alleviate hunger in local communities. In addition, Aldi says it will work with Long Island Cares to ensure excess grocery items are delivered to the local community through the Feeding America Network. In the past year, Aldi donated 33 million pounds of food to Feeding America partners across the country, according to the statement.
As LIBN previously reported, Aldi plans to open two more Long Island supermarkets next year. The discount grocery chain is expected to open a store in the first quarter at 2799 Route 112 in Medford in the space formerly occupied by Michael’s. The crafts chain is relocating to the space vacated by Rite Aid in the same center.
Aldi also plans to open a 21,000-square-foot supermarket at 153 Ronkonkoma Ave. in Lake Ronkonkoma in part of the 33,000-square-foot space that had been occupied by King Kullen. The redevelopment recently got approved from the Town of Brookhaven and the new Aldi store will likely open in the third quarter of next year.
Jeremy Isaacs of RIPCO Real Estate represented Aldi, while Gordon Miller served as in-house representative for landlord Federal Realty in the East Northport lease transaction.
