At least 60 people were killed and dozens more wounded in a wave of intense Israeli bombardment of eastern Lebanon late on Monday, the health ministry in Beirut said.
The strikes hit the north-eastern district of Baalbek, as well as towns and villages in the Bekaa Valley. The deadliest strike occurred in Sahl Allak in the Baalbek district, where 16 people died, the ministry said.
In a post on X, Baalbek governor Bachir Khodr said it was the “most violent day” the area had seen since the start of the hostilities.
The strikes come as the death toll from weeks of fighting between Israel and the Hizbollah militant group rose to 2,710, Lebanese authorities said.
