Pro surfer and shark attack survivor Bethany Hamilton is hoping for a medical miracle after her nephew drowned in the bathtub.
On Saturday, the real-life inspiration behind the 2011 film Soul Surfer took to Instagram with distressing news that her young nephew Andrew had drowned in the bathtub the night before, but still has a heartbeat. She revealed he was airlifted to the Kapiʻolani Medical Center for Women & Children in Hawaii and pleaded for any information that could give him the “best chance” at survival. She wrote:
“He still has a heartbeat and has fight in him. We are wrecked. But I know how proper medical support can make or break someone’s chance of survival and in this case we’re asking for help from anyone who has information of what we can do to give my nephew the best chance.”
SO, so awful!

She later updated the post revealing the family had gotten in contact with “world-renowned [hyperbaric oxygen therapy] expert on adolescent drowning” Dr. Paul Harch, and asked for prayers for little Andrew’s survival. See (below):
According to DailyMail.com, Bethany’s brother and Andrew’s uncle Noah revealed the little boy was “found not breathing in shallow water of bathtub. His vitals were enough to get him to Oahu.” He went on to call Andrew an “amazing swimmer” and “resilient,” and also asked for prayers.
We’re sending so much love and healing energy to the Hamilton family during this devastating time! Our prayers are with Andrew!
