Eddie Redmayne plays an elite assassin being hunted down by Lashana Lynch in the tense trailer for the upcoming Peacock limited series The Day of the Jackal.
The streamer dropped the first trailer for the series on Wednesday, November 9 in addition to photos of cast members not seen in the video. Joining Redmayne and Lynch are Úrsula Corberó, The Crown alums Charles Dance and Khalid Abdalla, Game of Thrones‘ Richard Dormer, and more.

What is The Day of the Jackal about?
As Peacock describes of the series, “An unrivaled and highly elusive lone assassin, the Jackal, (Eddie Redmayne) makes his living carrying out hits for the highest fee. But following his latest kill, he meets his match in a tenacious British intelligence officer (Lashana Lynch) who starts to track down the Jackal in a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase across Europe, leaving destruction in its wake.”
The series is based on the 1971 Frederick Forsyth novel of the same name. There was a film adaptation in 1973 starring Edward Fox in Redmayne’s role. Forsyth is a consulting producer on the series. Redmayne executive produces in addition to starring, and Lynch also serves as co-executive producer. It’s written by Ronan Bennett and directed by Brian Kirk.

Yes, Redmayne, Lynch, and their costars can be seen in the video above. In it, Lynch’s Bianca is determined to catch the Jackal even if it means defying the orders of her superiors who may see finding the Jackal and taking him down as a fool’s errand. Redmayne also wears several disguises to shield his identity on different jobs, and there seems to be a romantic angle to his plot that could force the Jackal to consider revealing his work to his lover.
When does The Day of the Jackal premiere?
The 10-episode series will premiere on Thursday, November 14 on Peacock with its first five episodes, followed by one episode weekly until the double-episode finale on Thursday, December 12. It will premiere on Sky (UK) on November 7, 2024.
