Los Angeles, CA – September 24, 2024 – Karan Soni (Deadpool franchise, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse) has been cast in the lead role of the upcoming thriller, Fade to Black. Alongside Soni, the film’s ensemble will include Katerina Tannenbaum (And Just Like That…, Better Call Saul), Max Carver (The Batman, The Leftovers), Rafael Casal (Blindspotting, Loki), Gavin Leatherwood (It’s What’s Inside), Joseph Lee (Beef, Searching), John Carroll Lynch (The Trial of the Chicago 7, American Horror Story), and Zosia Mamet (Flight Attendant, The Decameron) in principal roles from a script by Brandon Cohen (The Escort). Andrew Sandler, whose music video work spans across numerous A-list artists including Blink-182, Justin Bieber, Machine Gun Kelly, Ariana Grande and more, has been tapped to direct in what will mark his narrative feature debut.
Fade to Black follows Amit (played by Soni) as he navigates the horrors of trying to break into the twisted business of Hollywood. After an accidental death spurs a sinister epiphany, the screenwriter starts committing the murders of his script’s fictional serial killer in a desperate attempt to generate the IP necessary to get his movie made. The film promises a darkly comedic exploration of ambition, madness, and the brutal reality of the entertainment industry.
“Talent has responded to the material in a really exciting way and I am beyond thrilled to collaborate with such an extraordinary group of artists for my first narrative feature film,” said Sandler. “Each member of the ensemble is bringing their own unique flair to this world, which will only continue to elevate the incredible script Brandon has crafted. I can’t wait to get to work.”
“The anticipation for Fade to Black as we enter production is electric,” said Paul Scanlan, producer and CEO of Legion M. “With Karan, Katerina, and an insanely talented ensemble, all under the visionary direction of Andrew Sandler and powered by Cohen’s incisive script, we’re set to turn Hollywood’s absurdities on their head and deliver a film that’s as sharp as it is entertaining.”
The leading role continues to mark a big year for Soni, from the acclaimed SXSW premiere of A Nice Indian Boy, earning rave reviews for his heartfelt and nuanced performance in the culturally resonant film, to the unique comedic flair he brought to Marvel’s box office hit, Deadpool & Wolverine.
Coming off their SXSW Audience Award Winner My Dead Friend Zoe, Scanlan and David Baxter will produce through the Legion M banner alongside Brent Craft, under Craftsmen Media Co., and Andrew Carlberg (Academy Award-winner Skin, Mutt, The Fallout). Randall Einhorn (Abbott Elementary, The Office), Danny Hamouie and Jeff Annison will serve as Executive Producers with Jamie Castro casting the film.
The script was discovered on Franklin Leonard’s platform, The Black List, by Danny Hamouie and Brent Craft. Filming is set to take place in Los Angeles in October.
