Madison Square Garden Entertainment has apparently had a change of heart on its decision to issue a lifetime ban on the Phish fan credited who ripped a bong inside of the Sphere in Las Vegas during the band’s concert on April 20th, 2024.
After a lawyer initially said that the fan was permanently banned from Sphere and other MSG-owned venues earlier this week, a spokeswoman for the company now says that announcement was made “inadvertently.”
“There was a breakdown in our process due to a change in personnel which resulted in the letter being sent inadvertently,” the spokeswoman said in a statement shared on Saturday. “This customer is not banned from our properties, however, it is still against our policies, which are in accordance with local laws, to smoke, bring glassware into our venues, and disrupt other fans’ enjoyment of the event.”
The Phish fan — who goes by @acid_farts on Instagram — had planned to attend Dead & Company’s concert at Sphere prior to getting banned. He has also launched a charity t-shirt, with proceeds benefiting the Divided Sky Foundation, an addiction recovery center founded by Phish frontman Trey Anastasio.
